Learn To Groom Your Rabbit
Rabbit Grooming Should Never Be About Cosmetic Appearances
Our Welfare Focussed Grooming Services
Our grooming services focus on comfort, health, and prevention. You bring your rabbit to us for practical support, like nail care, coat maintenance, hygiene support, and parasite clean-up. You do not bring them for a “look”.
What you can expect from us
- We put your rabbit’s welfare first, every time.
- We choose the gentlest approach that achieves the welfare aim.
- We work in short, calm stages. We avoid forcing rabbits through a full session.
- We adapt the service to your rabbit on the day. That might mean doing less, changing the approach, or splitting work across follow-up sessions.
- We will stop if your rabbit is not coping. Stress, fear, breathing changes, pain responses, and exhaustion are all valid reasons to pause or end a session.
What grooming means in practice
- We prioritise the areas that matter most for health, for example nails that affect movement, matting that pulls on skin, or soiling that increases flystrike risk.
- We focus on reducing discomfort and preventing problems from escalating.
- Where a finish cannot be neat without compromising welfare, we choose welfare.
When we may change, pause, or stop a service
- Your rabbit becomes too stressed or reactive to continue safely.
- We find soreness, broken skin, infection, swelling, or signs of pain.
- Matting is too tight to remove comfortably without higher risk.
- Your rabbit appears unwell, for example reduced responsiveness, abnormal breathing, or unexpected weakness.
- We identify handling risks that could cause injury to your rabbit or our team.
Vet referral and health concerns
Grooming can highlight health issues that need veterinary input. If we identify concerns, we will be clear with you and may recommend you contact your vet before any further grooming.
Common examples include:
- Ear infections, severe inflammation, or heavy discharge.
- Skin infection, open wounds, hot spots, or suspected abscesses.
- Significant urine scald, flystrike risk, or unexplained soiling.
- Suspected pain, reduced mobility, or dental-related grooming issues.
- Parasite concerns that require prescription treatment, diagnosis, or follow-up.
In some cases we may provide limited support alongside a vet plan, for example gentle clean-up or hygiene trimming, but we will not attempt work that could worsen pain, delay treatment, or mask symptoms.
Your rabbit sets the pace
Every rabbit is different. Our job is to support their welfare, not to push them through a standard process. If we need to adjust the plan to protect your rabbit, we will.
Nail Trimming
Long nails can change how your rabbit stands and moves. They can snag, split, or curl, and that can lead to pain and injury. Nail trimming is simple when it is done little and often.
Who this is for:
- Rabbits with nails that look long, sharp, curved, or uneven
- Rabbits that struggle to grip on smooth floors
- Owners who feel unsure about trimming at home
What we do:
- Calm handling and a quick welfare check before we start
- Trim each nail to a safe length, avoiding the quick
- Check for broken nails, soreness, or signs your rabbit needs vet support
- Stop early if your rabbit becomes too stressed or unwell to continue safely
What you need to do
- Bring your rabbit in a secure carrier with a familiar towel or blanket
- Tell us about any recent illness, pain relief, mobility issues, or past nail bleeds
What you will receive:
- A safe nail trim carried out with welfare first
- Practical guidance on how often your rabbit may need trims, based on their nails and lifestyle

Brush & De-matting
Regular brushing helps keep your rabbit’s coat healthy and comfortable. It reduces loose fur, lowers the risk of hair build-up during moults, and helps prevent mats from forming.
Who this is for:
- Short, medium, and long-haired rabbits needing routine coat care
- Rabbits currently moulting
- Rabbits with small knots starting to form, before they become tight mats
What we do:
- A gentle coat check from head to tail, including problem areas like under the chin, armpits, belly, and around the tail
- Brushing and combing using appropriate tools for your rabbit’s coat type
- Careful removal of small knots where it is safe to do so without pulling skin
- Advice on what to do at home between grooms
Important notes:
If mats are tight to the skin or painful to remove, we may recommend clipping instead of pulling. In severe cases we may stop and advise a vet groom, especially if skin is sore, broken, or infected.
We will always prioritise comfort over achieving a “perfect” finish.
What you will receive:
- A maintenance groom that supports coat health and comfort
- Clear next steps if we find matting, skin irritation, or heavy moult build-up
Brush & De-matting
£30 per Rabbit
You may be asked to leave your rabbit with us for collection at a later point the same-day.
Long Hair Trimming
Long-haired rabbits can quickly become overwhelmed by their own coat. Trimming helps keep fur manageable, reduces matting, supports hygiene, and makes home grooming easier.
Who this is for:
- Rabbits with continuously growing coats
- Rabbits whose fur is dragging, clumping, or collecting hay and litter
- Owners who want a practical coat length that is easier to maintain
What we do:
- A coat and skin check to identify matting, debris, or sore areas
- A practical trim to reduce bulk and improve manageability
- Targeted trimming in high-risk areas for tangles and hygiene
- Guidance on brushing routines and realistic upkeep for your rabbit’s coat type
Important notes:
We trim for welfare and comfort. We do not offer style cuts and we cannot guarantee an even, show finish.
If your rabbit becomes stressed, we may pause or stop and rebook a shorter follow-up session rather than push them beyond what they can cope with.
What you will receive:
- A cleaner, more manageable coat length
- Advice to help you keep your rabbit comfortable between trims
Long Hair Trimming
from £45 per Rabbit

Welfare Clean
Some rabbits get into a mess that they cannot clean off safely, or that quickly leads to discomfort. A welfare clean focuses on hygiene, comfort, and preventing serious problems like skin irritation and flystrike risk.
Who this is for:
- Rabbits with a dirty bottom or urine scald
- Rabbits with matted fur around the rear, belly, or legs
- Rabbits with limited mobility, dental issues, or other health factors affecting self-grooming
What we do:
- A welfare check focused on skin condition, soiling, and underlying causes
- Gentle cleaning of affected areas using safe, rabbit-appropriate methods
- Careful removal of soiled fur and mats when needed, including clipping for hygiene
- Clear advice on aftercare and prevention
Important notes:
If we suspect flystrike, severe skin infection, open wounds, or significant pain, we will stop and advise urgent veterinary care.
Some cases need staged appointments to avoid stress and to protect fragile skin.
What you will receive
Immediate hygiene support to improve comfort
Clear next steps on home care, housing adjustments, and when to involve your vet

Ear/Fur Mite Treatment
Mites can cause intense itching, sore skin, dandruff, scabs, and ear debris. Early action matters because rabbits can injure themselves through scratching and skin can become infected.
Who this is for:
- Rabbits scratching more than usual
- Flaky skin, dandruff, scabs, fur loss, or ear debris
- Rabbits that have been in contact with another rabbit known to have mites
What we do:
- A welfare assessment and a practical check of ears and coat
- Gentle clean-up where appropriate, for example removing loose debris and tidying affected fur
- Advice on environmental control, cleaning routines, and reducing reinfestation risk
- If treatment is appropriate and available, we can apply a parasite treatment, or we can guide you on what to request from your vet
Important notes:
Mites can look similar to other skin and ear problems. If signs suggest infection, pain, or a more complex issue, we will recommend a vet assessment.
Treating the rabbit without addressing the environment can lead to recurrence, so we will give you a clear cleaning plan.
What you will receive:
- A clear, welfare-led plan for next steps
- Support with safe handling and hygiene while you address the underlying cause with appropriate veterinary treatment
