The Design

A happy, hoppy home is the thing every rabbit deserves and too few of them get. The phrase is worth wearing because it prompts the question we most want asked: what does a rabbit’s home actually need to have in it?

What A Happy Hoppy Home Looks Like

Room to move. A rabbit needs space to take three consecutive hops, to stretch out flat, and to stand up on its hind legs without its ears touching the roof. The welfare standard we rehome to is an enclosure of at least 3m x 2m x 1m for a pair, available to them around the clock rather than for an hour of supervised run time.

Company. Rabbits are a social species. A neutered, bonded pair grooms, eats and sleeps together, and a rabbit kept alone spends much of its day without the thing that settles it. We bond rabbits before rehoming wherever it is right for the individuals involved.

Hay, and plenty of it. Hay makes up most of what a rabbit should eat, and it needs to be in front of them all day. It keeps the gut moving and wears the teeth down at the rate they grow. Pellets and fresh greens fill in around it.

Somewhere to hide. As a prey species, rabbits settle when they can get out of sight at will. We look for at least as many hiding places as there are rabbits, each with two ways out, so neither one can be cornered.

Who You Are Supporting

Beloved Rabbits is a Scottish rabbit rescue charity, registered as a SCIO (SC049128). Rabbits reach us through surrender, abandonment and straying, often from homes that were set up on advice given at the point of sale. Each one is assessed by a vet, neutered, vaccinated against myxomatosis and RVHD, and matched with an adopter who is ready for the commitment.

Beloved Rabbits Welfare Services CIC sells this shirt on behalf of the charity. All proceeds go to Beloved Rabbits for its charitable purposes, covering veterinary bills, daily feeding and the running costs of holding a rabbit safely until the right home comes along.

A Gift For A New Rabbit Owner

The design works as a present for someone who has recently taken rabbits on, or for the person in the family who does the mucking out. It carries the standard without a lecture attached, which tends to land better than a leaflet.

Fit And Care

The tubular body keeps its shape through repeated washing, and the twin needle hems and sleeves hold up to it. Wash at 30 degrees, inside out, and dry flat to protect the print.
